...aaaand After ELETOS “We are all one; from the smallest ant to the greatest dragons. We all come from the same place.” -- Jonin Wanderer of the 13 Zuratti The Eletos are tall boney creatures. Their skin comes in a variety of flesh tones, from dark brown or black, to pale pinkish white. Paler Eletos come from the far north where it is cold all year. Your average Eleto stands over 2 meters tall, but is little more than stretched sinew over bone, making them appear more like tall desiccated Corpses than anything else. Their Hair is thin and soft, coming in colorless shades of white, silver, grey and black. Genders mature at around 20, and can easily live to be over a hundred. Eleto clothing tends to be simple and functional, rarely colorful, and always comfortable allowing for freedom of motion. They don’t often place stock on physical appearance, but are nevertheless quite clean. The men cannot grow much facial hair, those who can have long wispy beards, or braided facial hair. Naming conventions vary, but most names are strong and simple, male names include Kier, Mark, Woad, and Thom. Female names include Willow, Surel, Nai, and Rose. Eletos do sometimes name their children after those who touched their lives, typically choosing the family name, so occasionally you’ll get Names like Moonshadow, or Smithson. Eletos do not have surnames. Who they are what they do is most important thing about them. Eleto Society: “The largest community of Eletos in recoded history is the Redriver family, who lived in the north west during the war of expansion. Eliot and Kaila of the Redriver basin had 17 children over the course of 70 years together. Unusual, as most Eletos have several relationships over their long lives. How anyone could maintain a relationship for 70 years astounds me. Even with the long lifespan of the Eletos, I think the Redriver family were either extremely bored or extremely happy, and insane on both accounts. Regardless, this is an extremely rare occurrence for Eletos.” -- Tim Shwepper, historian. Eletos are by nature both aloof and direct. They prefer simple deliberate roles, and small communities. A nomadic people, the Eletos follow herds, hunting the strays and scavenging the weak. Traditionally an Eleto Clan Consists of four distinct roles. The Alpha position is held by the Arcigo, who handles the day-to-day decisions of the Clan. They determine where the hunt will lead them, and are responsible for the safety and leadership of the family. The Beta roll, called the Igeo, Is the position of Hunter and Scavanger. It is the Igeo’s responsibility to not only carry out the Arcigo’s plans, but to act as a buffer between the Arcigo and the outside world. Igeo typically have better social skills or might even learn a few languages in their dealings with other cultures. Elders serve a very important roll in the small Eleto Clan. Not only do they serve as advisor, but it is also their responsibility to tend to the children. Lastly, a position that is surprisingly important amongst an Eleto Clan, is the Zenigo, which roughly translates as foreigner. A wandering Animagus adding his or her number to a nomadic tribe is very common. In addition to brining unusial skills which aid in the Clan’s ability to adapt and survive, they bring stories of strange lands. It’s uncommon to have more than one Zenigo in a group, and even more uncommon for a Zenigo to be accepted into the Clan that is not Eleto. Most Zenigo stay with a clan for a few years, sharing their skills and world view with the children, before they move on. In this way Eletos highly value individuality, but in a highly ritualized way. Their meetings with other clans are also highly ritualized with extensive traditions regarding territorial desputes for hunting, and scavenging. Most Clans will encounter other Eletos clans a few times a year during their nomadic migration, often trading children to fulfill the Zenigo position. Most Eletos dislike cities, especially the big ones like the city of Mahnn. Those Eletos who chose to live in cities are stereotyped as incredibly formal, and strange by local standards. Attitude: Eletos praise individualism, in a way more so than even the Imps, though both the Eletos and the Imps themselves would likely disagree. The Eletos don’t flaunt their individualism, but that does not mean they value it any less. Their Gaunt, and in many’s opinion, Grusome appearance marks an Eleto who leaves his clan, more drifter than visitor. Their fondness for defined structured lives is typically mistaken as either honor or disinterest, and their preference for small groups, is mistaken as a desire to be alone. The most misunderstood quality of the Eletos, however, is their tendency to take a larger picture, occasionally missing the point the other races, but more often causing the other race’s impatience and impetuousness to frustrate the Eleto. Elato are often considered patient, calm and clinical, so when they are forceful and direct (which is how many think of themselves) the other races are typically surprised. Role in War: Eletos almost never engage in war. Small Skirmishes do happen, and they may involve the occasional Elato Mercenary, but full war is seen as a waste of resources. The Ecception seems to be whenever a local ruler threatens expansion. Elatos will take up arms to defend territory rights, and the sancity of forests and plains. They understand that a city’s Progress can mean an end to their A few Elatos took part in the war of expansion, fighting against it so as to protect natural herding grounds and the sanctity of the forests. The few Eletos who answered the call to arms, were formidable opponents, with decades of training and endless stamina. These champions fended off hundreds of enemies single handedly. Eventually all seven of them were dealt with. Luckily, Imps come in the hundreds. What is forgotten, is that each of these warriors fought for a different kingdom, and was from a different realm. They each likely had different motivations. In short, the Eletos who did participate were likely just bribed very well. Views on Death: Eletos are by nature three things. They are Scavangers, they are intuitively tied to both the pants and animals that feed them, and they are long lived with a low birthrate. This results in both a high value for life and a deep and dundamental respect for death. Eletos possess a natural ability to speak with animals which they often must kill or hunt for survival. This instills a cultural respect for all life. The Elatos have a massively complex system of cultural migration, which combines with longevity resulting in well educated and often philosophical view of death by the time they are old. Most Elatos have both a deep respect and fear of death, but the consntat confrontation with death that they face in the wild , combined with their ability to respect and interact with other shorter lived, more fertile creatures also results in a disconnect. Most Elatos see the death of most creatures as part of the circle of life, but see the death of other Elatos as a horrible tragedy. Maximum and Minimum Starting Attributes, and Starting Resolve MGT 4 - 8 FIN 4 - 10 HT 4 - 10 MTL 6 - 12 SOC 4 - 10 RES 10 Racial Skills: Herbalist, Perception, or Lore: Wilderness Lore: Eletos Racial Features: Primal Bond: The Eletos has a special bond with nature. At the cost of 1 resolve, the character may spend a round and link herself with an animal or plant. The Eletos must touch the plant or animal. The Eletos closes her eyes, removing herself off from the world, instead experiencing what the plant or animal encounters. This ability does not give the Eletos any control over the linked life form, but does allow the character to see through its senses. In the case of a plant the Eletos can “see” the immediate area, as if she were standing where the plant was. In the case of large plants, the Eletos can “look out” through ever part of the plant at the same time. While this ability is in effect the Eletos loses all concept of what’s going on around her, and only sees, hears smells and feels what the subject of this ability does. This ability lasts until the Eletos opens her eyes again. Wild Tongue: The character possesses a special rapport with one category of animal. Pick one type of animal such as dogs, cats, rodents, birds of prey, lizards etc. Housecat, fox and trout would all be too specific, whereas birds, amphibians, and predators would all be too broad. The Eletos gains the ability to speak with and understand this type of animal. Because of this, the character gains a +1d8 bonus to all Animal Handling checks with the chosen animal type. Should the Eletos ever gain a familiar or animal companion of any kind, it is always an animal of this type. NOTE: Being able to speak with an animal does not mean you can receive any useful information from it, or command it. Most predators are very proud creatures, and most small creatures have short attention spans. Of course there are always exceptions, and any Eletos is likely to have at least one animal at home they get along with.
