after several interesting experiences this week, i want to make something very clear. i have publicly posted my support and advocacy for breastfeeding week not as a way of shaming formula and/or bottle-feeding. nor have i meant to communicate that breastfeeding is superior to formula and/or bottle-feeding. breastfeeding is not for every mother. i understand this. rather, i believe it important to reaffirm the normalization of breastfeeding, especially in public situations, where a mother (like myself) has often (in the past) felt incredibly embarrassed and/or ashamed for breastfeeding either 1.) in public, period or 2.) in public without a cover. its about encouraging and promoting the confidence of the mother who chooses to breastfeed. it is NOT a mommy war, bottles and/or formula vs breast. (side note: i was a formula, bottle-fed baby beginning in my sixth week of life. i am sick much less than almost anyone i have known that was exclusively breastfed. hows about them apples!)
