alright guys, todays sermon is about how God is a loving God. although i certainly cant go through all the acts of love God has shown us throughout history, and even before. i will go through some of the Greatest examples. lets look at how God shows his love even in acts that seem like they were done simply because they had to be, or things that seem like he did simply on a whim. take the creation of the universe for example. although alot of people realize God created the universe, some people simply believe he did so because it had to be done at some point in order for us to exist. first off, God didnt need to create the universe because he needed it. he has the entire kingdom of heaven. he created to show just how much he loves us. to give us an entire universe to explore and to get a glimpse of his glory is perhaps the most precious gift a father can bestow to his children. which leads me to my next example, God also showed us how much he loves by giving us wills and emotions, God didnt want a relationship with us out of force or an obligation. he wanted us to have a relationship with him because we choose to. he didnt want us to be simply programmed to love him, although he could have easily made it that way. God wanted us to seek and adore him at our own will. my last example, and perhaps the greatest one, is him becoming Jesus Christ in order to free us from his judgement, There is no greater act of love then sending your very own son to die so that others dont have to. and our father loves so much that he did so unhesitatingly! when i say that i dont mean he did so with a smile on his face. i am saying he did so because he knew what would happen to us if he didnt. He sent his only son to be nailed to a cross, broken and beaten, had a crown of thorns bashed into his head, which must have been especially agonizing to Jesus because he was perfect and holy, and thorns were created directly from sin. and last but certainly not least, in fact it was perhaps the most agonizing of his trials since he was taking something that was in complete conflict with his holy nature into himself. he took all of our sins, the past, present, and future sins, into his very being. in a sense he became sin. why? so that we would have to! he took our punishment that we so much deserved, so that we could be restored if we believe in his sacrifice. he made his kingdom something we dont have to claw and strive for to reach, all we have to do is believe that he died so that our sins could be forgiven and we could be at his right hand in heaven. there is simply no greater act of love than that.
