am Joanne Wombwell, and on 8th dec 2010 I gave birth to Jensen weighing 1lb 8oz, and 5 hours and 2 mins later to Amelia weighing 1lb 4oz. At just 23 weeks and 5 days gestation they were born at a hospital 135 miles from our home in Derbyshire, at Middlesbrough James Cook University Hospital. Both had a slim chance of survival, and we were very scared. After suffering a grade 4 brain haemmorage Amelia was fighting for her life and Jensen had a small bleed on his brain, both were on ventalators, and on high oxygen levels. Both needed PDA ligation but were too small to undergo this proceedure, and had to be 2lbs in weight. Eventually they had the surgery at Newcastle freeman Hospital, but it was a frighteneing time. they needed numerous blood transfusions, and loads of medication and needed laser eye surgery due to their prematurity. After 5 months in Intensive care and SCBU they came home. Amelia is blind but crackers, and is such a happy girl, who knows how she will develop with the damage to her brain, but she walks and talks and can feed herself. Jensen has CLD, been on o2 till his 1st birthday, and has taken longer to crawl, but talks for ages, and is such a loving boy. We will never forget the neo-natal unit, and are so thankful to them for everything they have done, our babies are true miracles.
