ank you for taking the time attending the Case Manager panel this week and answering our questions on your Stage 1 Application for a $6k Skills & Knowledge grant. We discussed it further after you left and we reached a common view on the application’s merits on Commercialisation Australia (CA) grant criteria. It was agreed that I would provide our consensus feedback to you. There were a number of weaknesses in the merit of your application for a CA grant including: 1. There is little prospect for effective protection of the IP which limits the sustainability of any competitive advantage with low technological barriers to imitation and competition particularly from potential well funded competitors. 2. There is no commercialisation experience in the management team. For these reasons, your application would not have enough relative merit on CA’s grant criteria to be successful against the many other applicants to the highly competitive CA program. Please note that the views expressed are based on the specific criteria for CA grants and are not in any way a reflection on the potential of the business. Apologies, as I know this is not the feedback that you wish to receive, however, we prefer to give you feedback early, rather than have you invest significant time in a low probability grant process. In our meeting you mentioned that you have been discussing the prospect of filing an Australian Provisional Patent Application for your invention with Baxter IP. My recommendation would be to think carefully about this step and to discuss the likelihood of being able to draft a patent application that would be of any value with your patent attorney prior to incurring any expenses. We hope that this process was beneficial to you in some way and I wish you every success.
