Therefore, this suggests the more materialistic goods and affluence a person acquires, the happier they are. There is much debate around this theory and many have questioned whether money and material possessions distract people from the things that really matter. Growing concern around the social and environmental consequences of economic growth and the potential this has on the well-being of a nation comes into play. Does higher growth rates and greater prosperity lead to greater happiness? Should we forego one priority for another? How do we ensure moving forward that we do this inclusively and sustainable? This sub-theme will explore the consequences of economic growth on well-being and delve into ways forward considering the key questions posed above.
