arol Ann Lintern Wendy its not just the building (I have questioned this in the local press in the past and have never received a reply) but the park also that is being taken over by Village Green (METAL). No member of the public is allowed access to the park unless they buy a ticket. My question is about the legality of this in a public park..The council seem to have turned the whole lot over to this organisation which is apparently a registered charity funded very generously by the Arts Council. A charity is supposed to be non-profit making, although it can pay its executives and employees whatever it chooses. There are executives who earn very high salaries working for charities (it is big business in many cases). I have looked at government websites to try to find an answer and it appears that entrance fees cannot be charged for community events; although the charity is allowed to ask for donations from the public. It also appears that public thoroughfares must remain open and be accessible. I am hoping to hear from the council but so far I have heard nothing. Further to the entrance ticket price, stall holders also pay a high rental for the stall space. When Village Green first came to Chalkwell Park everything was free and the stalls went to to local community groups and arts and crafts. I understand there needs to be some control on the gates because of the danger of overcrowding but that can be done surely without charging an entrance fee.
