around me. I was going to say thank you when I began to feel weak. I tried to pull off the shawl, but I couldn’t move my hands. I started to panic as Simon started laughing. “Did you really think it was going to be that easy?” he said, touching my face. I was trying with all my might to pull away the shawl. I couldn’t even bring my hands up. When my legs started giving out, Simon picked me up and sat me in the chair. He looked down at me and smiled again. “A wonderful thing those leaves,” he muttered. He started pacing the room as I tried to free myself. “It’s pointless,” he said to me. I looked up at him. “Why are you doing this?” “I want to see how good of an actress you are,” he answered. “What do you mean?” He stopped in front of me. “Where have my men gone?” he asked. I looked away. So he did know I was killing them. “Where is my army, witch?” Now I was confused. I hadn’t found that many of his men. I had only killed about ten of them at the most. The fact that he was asking about his army came to a surprise to me. “I don’t know,” I finally answered. He sighed and started pacing again. “Why have you tampered with your memory?” he asked. I looked at him confused. He stopped and leaned over me. “Did you think I wouldn’t find out? Did you think I wouldn’t notice, witch?” I wanted to understand, but I felt so lost. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” “Is that so?” He straightened out. “I’ve been watching you, witch. Did you think I would believe that you would do anything for me?” “I would do anything for you,” I answered. He started pacing the room again. “And yet you order your friends to hunt my men. You tamper with your memory to hide things from me.” What was he talking about? I didn’t order anyone to hunt his men. “I hide nothing from you, my lord.” He stopped in front of me again. “Tell me something, do you think me stupid?” “What?” “Did you think I wouldn’t find out?” I was so confused. “Find what out?” He leaned over me. “Why doesn’t he remember you? What is he hiding?” I shook my head. “I don’t know what you’re talking about?” He grabbed my hair. “Why can’t you remember him?” he shouted. “Remember who, my lord?”
