as a child, i vaguely remember my grandma puteri habibah relating how her father megat ibrahim, a direct descendant of megat terawis, had spent some years living in exile on labuan island off sabah. of course, being a kid, i understood nothing and wasnt keen to know more. last month whilst proof-reading the manuscript of a well-researched, soon-to-be-published book about megat terawis, i learned something that made me super proud to be megat ibrahims great-granddaughter. apparently, the wealthy nobleman, leader of peraks kaum muda [deemed a secret society by the imperious poms], was banished to no-mans land labuan in 1932 for instigating local malays to go against british rule. he was only pardoned and allowed to return to perak in 1936. and so we had a rebel [with a cause] in our midst..! no wonder i am who i am.. :-D
