as written by my friend Emanuel Dimitri Volakis - Bravo to a thoughtfully expressed sentiment. I concur! I have supported (as in voted for) Senator Feinstein for a number of years, but was forced to call her office today to point out the hypocrisy in this current situation. It appears it is LOST on the Senator, that the very complaints that Edward Snowden brings up with his outing of the NSA mishandling of their powers by spying on US citizens IS NO DIFFERENT than the CIA abusing their access to manipulate and/or access information that is not intended for the CIAs use. Its about a basic respect for privacy and the unlawfulness of unwarranted search and seizure. A right that ALL OF US should be afforded (and are guaranteed under the constitution). It appears that Senator Feinstein feels the law applies to her and her committee staff....but not to the average US citizen. THAT BLOWS....and this may affect the way I vote next term. The system is BROKEN....pardon Snowden now and restructure our spying apparatus ASAP. And the letter Emanuel sent to Senator Feinstein: Dear Senator, I want to preface this letter with the understanding that I have voted for you for successive terms in office as my Senator for over 20 years and for your last term as Mayor of San Francisco. With that said, I find your current outrage directed towards the CIA as being somewhat hypocritical, considering your views against Mr. Edward Snowden. I quote...“I dont look at this as being a whistleblower. I think its an act of treason”. Maybe now you can see the dilemma that Mr. Snowden faced when discovering that the very Constitution that he had sworn to protect was under attack by the people who he was contracted to work for. I would hope in light of this issue with the CIA that you might recant your negative assessment of Mr. Snowden and consider building a case for Snowden to receive a presidential pardon for his actions. Snowden is a PATRIOT and should be awarded either the Congressional Gold Medal or the Presidential Medal of Freedom for shedding light onto a system that is OBVIOUSLY completely out of control. You have now experienced this personally...the karmic irony is so very thick. I may still vote for you again should you choose to run for another term in office. But I hope this teachable moment is not lost on you. You have chosen to represent the people...but you (and the rest of the Senators and representatives on Capital Hill) are not above the law or above the same level of constitutional guarantee of personal privacy that EACH and every citizen of this country should be afforded. This business of the NSA collecting all data indiscriminately is an abomination against the privacy of human thought. If the very act of communication between two people is perpetually subject to third party eavesdropping (regardless of the nature of that communication being lawfully suspect) is allowed to continue, I fear the very war against terror has been permanently lost. Since the NSA captures data WORLD WIDE….this is a problem with global consequence. The Nazis could not have thought up a more Orwellian system of mental subjugation, as each time we put finger to keyboard…we have to wonder…who is reading… Sincerely, Emanuel Dimitri Volakis
