asian-age *gadkari want mungantiwar as cm *he doesnt want two power centre in nagpur in the form of fadnavis *only 16 mla were present to greet gadkari The stance of some Vidarbha members of legislative Assembly insisting on Nitin Gadkari as chief minister of Maharashtra is being seen as a pressure tactic by the Gadkari faction to get a chief minister of their choice. If sources are to be believed, Mr Gadkari wants to pitch for close confidante and former Maharashtra BJP president Sudhir Mungantiwar as CM. Mr Gadkari does not want Devendra Fadnavis, serving state BJP president, to become his competitor in the Maharashtra BJP and is therefore creating hurdles in the path of his becoming CM, according to highly-placed sources in the BJP. “He (Mr Gadkari) is planning to promote the name of Mr Mungantiwar for the CM’s post and not his own. The entire episode of MLAs persuading Mr Gadkari was only to show his strength in the party functioning,” said a senior BJP leader on condition of anonymity. That too, only 16 MLAs congregated at Gadkariwada, Mr Gadkari’s residence, of whom, eight were unaware why they had been called there. With the BJP’s emergence as the single largest party in the state, Mr Fadnavis is being considered as the party leadership’s choice for CM. Mr Gadkari in turn has started viewing Mr Fadnavis as his rival, with both being very close to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. A party functionary pointed out that Mr Fadnavis’ rise would result in the creation of another power centre in Nagpur after Gadkariwada. Significantly, this is not the first time when Mr Fadnavis is facing resistance from the Gadkari faction. In April 2013 when Mr Fadnavis was about to replace Mr Mungantiwar as the state BJP chief, the Gadkari camp tried all it could to give another term to Mr Mungantiwar. On his part, Mr Gadkari said that he wasn’t interested in coming back to Maharashtra but he would accept whatever his party decided.
