Atmosphere French Restaurant through the eyes of Christine and Jean-Marc Metairie This month, we are pleased to introduce PHCA business member Atmosphere French Restaurant located at 1620 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30324. We had the pleasure to speak with owners Christine and Jean-Mark Metairie to learn a little bit more about this French treasure hidden right in our neighborhood. - What inspired you to become restaurant owners? When we first came in the US, we were wondering what we were going to do, and we thought that there was an opportunity in the Restaurant business. It was back in 1998 and very few restaurants were offering French Cuisine. We then decided to work in the business to learn the market and the specifics of the hospitality business (we were not in the restaurant business in France). Then in 2001 we had the opportunity to open Atmosphere. - Tell us about the cuisine offered at Atmosphere? Atmosphere is offering classic French cuisine. Dishes that any French people love and are a part of their childhood memories and culinary culture. - Is there a signature item on the menu? Why is it the signature dish? We have many signature dishes, but we would say that the Escargots and the Scallops Atmosphere are definitely our most popular items. Escargots are made with high-quality ingredients and prepared in a very classic way – baked in garlic and parsley butter – but we also add to the recipe an extra touch of a special kind of Duxelles that enhance the whole taste and make this dish unique. - What is your daily routine as the owner of a restaurant? Being a restaurant owner keeps you very busy, especially a family running business like Atmosphere. - What are three tips for running a successful restaurant? In order to run a successful restaurant, many things are involved like the location, the concept and the price value, but the love of what you are doing is, we think, the most important. - What is your secret to keep customers coming? We love food and we cook very often at home, even though we have a restaurant! - What have been some of your most successful promotions? The $25 wine tastings offered every first Wednesday of each month is a very successful promotion. We also offer a special deal on gift certificates during the month of December every year where you get a $20 gift certificate for yourself when you offer a $100 gift certificate. - How important are your employees to your restaurants success? Employees are very important. Like for any business, they are the working force which makes things possible. - What has been your most satisfying moment or moments since opening the restaurant? The most satisfying moments are when customers are telling us that they had a great time and enjoyed their meal. We have customers that get married in our restaurant and come back for every anniversary since then. We also have some customers that come in every Sunday for Brunch and some that even became good friends. - There are so many restaurants in Midtown, what makes Atmosphere so special? Atmosphere is special by the fact that we are not trendy. We have a concept and stick with it. - What are your future plans for the restaurant? We are working right now on the project of covering a part of our outside patio. This process is difficult because we are zoned limited commercial and we have to go through special permit applications and regulations, but we hope to get it done and give to our customers a great outside dining experience protected from the elements in the near future. atmospherebistro/ 1620 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30324 (678) 702-1620
