Demolition will begin on Oct 27 and take about one month, bringing to an end a 14-year legal dispute, said Niphon Chotibal, director-general of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation. Ban Pha Ngam resort occupies 125 rai (200,000 square metres) in Thap Lan National Park in Nadi district of Prachin Buri. Opened in 1997, it has 41 cabins and a number of adventure attractions including a zip line, a climbing wall and a rope challenge. It has been featured frequently in local and international travel magazines. Mr Niphon said he would deploy 450 staff to demolish the property. As the work will take place in the high tourist season, he expects opposition and plans to seek protection from soldiers and police. The demolition is expected to cost 4 million baht. The department will sue the resorts operator for the demolition cost and damage to the environment, Mr Niphon said. Ban Pha Ngam is one of the highest-profile casualties of a campaign that began two years ago to end decades of encroachment in Thap Lan. In addition to as many as 50 large and small resorts, a number of expensive private homes were built on park land, some of them by well-connected police and military officers and public servants. Many have since been demolished. Some of the land in the area was the responsibility of the Agricultural Land Reform Office (ALRO), which was supposed to ensure that it was given to landless farmers. In some cases, however, resort investors and individuals managed to get hold of plots with fake title deeds. bangkokpost/news/social/436939/ban-pha-ngam-faces-axe
