bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-north-west-wales-30129482 This dwarf/pygmy (its hard to tell the difference between the two) sperm whale was re floated and will hopefully survive. It is interesting that it stranded at a similar time to the one off that live stranded off Penzance a few years a go. Could it have been feeding on the plentiful squid that is around at present? Are there more of these small whales out there than we originally thought? They are small and very hard to pick up and identify in the field. Therefore it is possible that in the late Summer and Autumn there are more of the Kogia (dwarf sperm and pygmy sperm) family of whales off the coast of the UK than we think. Our live sighting at the start of August this year adds weight to that theory too.
