be careful out there this weekend! MONTGOMERY COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY PRESS RELEASE: The Texas Renaissance Festival is a time for mirth, merriment, and family fun! But drink and drive this weekend and there’s no place to run. Ye local sheriff (and DPS and several police agencies) will be looking for those that hit the roads after drinking too much ale. The town crier says that if you drink and drive, you’ll face time in jail. Furthermore, this weekend is one of the most dangerous on the roads because of the additional Halloween celebrations that will peak Saturday. As a result, multiple agencies are assigning extra officers to work the roads into and out of the Texas Renaissance Festival this Saturday from 9pm to 4am. Police agencies listed above will assign extra patrols to look for, arrest, and expeditiously process drunk drivers. Prosecutors, blood technicians, and judges will be available to draft, review, and execute blood warrants for any DWI arrested driver who refuses a voluntary sample. BAT vans, DART vans, and jail transport vans will be available to process and transport prisoners. The No Refusal Program uses police, prosecutors, judges, and medical professionals to obtain search warrants for blood samples from suspected impaired drivers who illegally refuse to provide breath samples after being arrested. Prosecutors and judges work to review probable cause warrants in all DWI arrests that enable law enforcement to acquire blood samples to present solid scientific evidence of guilt or innocence in court. Any person who is arrested for DWI has been deemed to have consented to providing a voluntary blood specimen. Those that violate the law will have that refusal admitted in MCDA Vehicular Crimes evidence against them and will face license suspensions as a result of the refusal. Those who refuse will then have a warrant drafted and if signed by a judge, blood will be taken for testing. In Montgomery County, those who refuse face higher jail time and fines as a result of the refusal. The Tomball police Department has police officers trained as paramedics who will assist with blood draws.
