because when I was young my dad signed me up for karate so that I could have some form of defense if someone decided they wanted to hurt me. because he told me that if any little boy was threatening me I could defend myself and he would come to the school and support me. He never told me why anyone would do that in the first place. He only did what he could do to prepare me for when it would happen. Because an 8 year old me shouldnt have had to carry knives around with them at all times. Because I am treated with more respect by men and women if they perceive me as being male, but if I seem too enthusiastic, or am too kind to others, or do anything thats characterized as not masculine, I lose that privilege and am not perceived as a male. Because males on the internet arguing with me about issues regarding women treat my opinions with more respect than the opinions of women - whom these issues directly affect. because feminism is important for men as well. because the majority of men who are raped are raped by men. because if your view of equality is being able to hit a woman, I wouldnt be able to roundhouse kick you in the head like you deserve, no matter what my dad tells me. because when a woman who has been raped DOES report it, men will claim that shes lying and all of yall will believe his voice over hers. because if a rapist DOES get a sentence, its not for long and the woman gets blamed and threatened because she ruined his life. Most still wouldnt believe her. Because good luck to you if youre a transgender woman of colour. Because notallmen have to be doing shitty things to allwomen for this issue to be addressed. Because I am sick and tired of this shit happening to people I deeply care about. Because I hate the fact that its happening this minute to people I dont even know. Because there are wonderful people I will never get to know if we keep being silent about these issues, if we keep crying that notallmen... Because it wont matter to most men until its their wife that has been murdered, or until its your 8 year old daughter thats been raped. Because by then it will also be too late for many others around the world. Because it shouldnt have to be about you for it to matter anyway. Because although I am a man.. I do believe I make a better man having been born as a woman.
