bennettpilgrimages.org/index.html Pilgrimages are a duty to our spiritual well-being - Laurence Sutton In 2012 and 2013 we visited religious and historical sites in Western and Eastern Turkey while studying J.G. Bennett’s last book, “The Masters of Wisdom”, and G.I.Gurdjieff’s second series, “Meetings with Remarkable Men.” In June 2014, we have an opportunity to revisit these sites, including the cities of Gurdjieff’s early years in Eastern Turkey, and we will also travel to Armenia where we will meet with Armenians having a special knowledge of Gurdjieff’s early life and family background; visit little-known locations; hear the music of the Gurdjieff Folk Ensemble in Yerevan, using traditional instruments to interpret Gurdjieff’s music; and see religious sites, both Christian churches and monasteries and pre-Christian pagan temples, in this unique spiritual environment. We will see the Echmiadzin Cathedral, the Mother Church of the Armenian Apostolic Church. We will also have the opportunity to meet with Armenian groups dedicated to the study and practice of Gurdjieff’s teachings. This is really an unusual and unique opportunity. In September 2013 Bennett Pilgrimages traveled to Eastern Anatolia. The tour was planned with these objectives: to make pilgrimage to some holy sites and places of religious significance; to visit some historical and archeological sites having a bearing on our spiritual search; and to visit the scenes of Gurdjieffs early life and places described in the early chapters of Meetings with Remarkable Men. We drew on the resources of local guides, talked to local people participating on religious and Sufi practices, and also met with our dervish friends in Istanbul. In 2014 we will return to Eastern Anatolia. The objective is essentially the same, but we have changed some locations, and added extra nights to certain locations to allow for more time to explore the areas.
