#blackandwhitechallenge Day 3/5. In March 1999 one of the most powerful cyclones to hit the Australian mainland. Cyclone Vance a cat 4 cyclone smashed into the small Western Australian town of Exmouth in the states north west. I was fortunate enough to be one of the first photographers on the ground, in fact as we were landing our pilot was told to abort, but he had wheels down and was beyond a go around we had no choice. The old parts of town were devastated as was the marina - a 3.5 m total surge took care of that.I had one of the first media DSLRs a Nikon NC2000e to record the destruction, this is one of the images from those files, one of the first images in Australia to be sent via a mobile telephone. I can only say I am thankful that I only had to photograph property damage and not the horrible aftermath of later cyclones, hurricanes and sunamis.
