…blessings will come upon you and find you if you obey the Lord your God’s voice. Deuteronomy 28:2 (CEB) God desires to talk to each one of us. The way in which He talks varies from person to person and circumstance to circumstance. He may choose a quiet whisper; placing a feeling or nudge upon your heart; through scripture; aloud; or another person. His methods are endless. It’s not only important for us to become sensitive to His voice, but also to obey Him – without question. God often communicates to me by placing “nudges” or “feelings of action” on my heart. They always involve helping someone whether it is a special purchase, prayer, conversation, or just a smile and “hello”. Each time I have obeyed His nudge, the result has always been positive. Nothing negative ever happens, i.e., unless I engage my mortal brain and start to analyze what He just asked me to do. When that happens, I usually end up feeling guilty later on about a missed opportunity to serve Him. The more frequently I respond without question to His nudges, the easier it is for me to just go and act. And when you listen and obey God, He rewards you. Last Monday I was going to have lunch with a friend after I finished lifting at the gym. I previously purchased several small crosses and brought one along to give to my lunch companion. After finishing my training I was in the ladies’ locker room getting my gym bag together. Nearby a woman was talking about the anxiety she had concerning her husband’s possible transfer overseas. Upon overhearing her, I received one of God’s nudges to give her the cross I had intended to give to my friend. I will admit that I did briefly think that I brought the cross along for someone else. But I listened to God’s direction. Approaching the woman I introduced myself and told her that I wanted her to have the cross. Her eyes welled up with tears and immediately she gave me a big hug. She said that it was exactly what she needed. I was so happy that I listened to God’s nudge. See her smile was enough of a blessing for me. During this past week, I was also working on a small project. I had an idea as to how to decorate the project and needed to go to the local craft store for materials. Just as I was about to leave the house to go shopping, I received another nudge from God to take along another cross. I was in a hurry and really didn’t feel like running upstairs to my office to get one. But I did. After walking around the craft store for a while, I met a very sweet sales associate. Explaining my idea to her, she quickly led me through the store helping me get the items I needed. Also needing a bow in a specific color, she took me to the area where the “bow lady” made them to order. As I was explaining to the “bow lady” what I needed, the sales associate suddenly looked up and saw one on the sale rack. It was not only the exact color I needed, but also the only one in that color on sale. In fact, almost everything I needed for the project was on sale! What I thought was going to be a long and frustrating shopping trip turned out to be a quick and enjoyable experience. I gave her the cross I carried in my pocket. I needed to make one last stop before returning home. As I entered a small store I realized that I no longer had my BOGO coupon. Oh well I thought; my loss. I was greeted by a friendly sales associate rearranging the shelves near the store’s front door. We chatted for a bit and the store’s sale and BOGO coupon came up in our conversation. When I told her that I didn’t have one, without hesitation she immediately and enthusiastically said she would honor the coupon for me. Wow! I was totally surprised and touched by her offer. I never expected her kindness. My shopping blessings last Friday were a gift from God for obeying His nudges. God freely blesses us, more than we deserve, even when we don’t listen to His voice. But His blessings multiply the more we listen and obey His wishes. Please take a moment and listen for God’s voice. He loves you and wants to talk to you. And take whatever action He desires. You won’t be disappointed. If you take the first step, He’ll be there waiting for you. Thank you, dear Father for my blessings. I am humbled by your generosity.
