businessinsider/swastikas-emory-aepi-2014-10 Im gonna do something Ive largely attempted to abstain from doing by making assumptions and or/social commentary public on facebook but I couldnt resist this opportunity. I may be wrong in my assumptions and/ or my conclusions but Id far rather be wrong than say nothing at all Let me first say that this act is pathetic, hateful, disheartening, and overwhelmingly not surprising. On the surface, it would be really simple to call this an act of hateful racism, one of many, perpetrated against the so-called Jewish Race. By birth, I am part of this race. However, I think it would be useful to actually take a more detailed look at this incident. Simply put, what we have here is not really an act of racism in the sense that most of us generally refer to it. Take a look at those swastikas. Yes, the ones that are not actually even swastikas. One of them (on the left) is just all kinds of crooked and Im not quite sure what to make of it, and the other (on the right) is not only not rotated the right way (one meant to be symbolically hateful and only given this substantial value upon its appropriation by Nazi propagandists), but also isnt even drawn correctly so as to be a representation of its original purpose as a Hindu symbol. Im going to go out on a limb here: Whoever painted these werent white supremacists. They werent Nazis, or Neo-Nazis, or any other stereotypically hateful group. Well...other than drunk privileged individuals who when they get intoxicated find it funny or comical or socially-acceptable to begin the onslaught of debauched racism, bigotry, homophobia, and any host of other hateful diatribe. Since my opinion is obvious, Ill let you decide if they qualify under the nomen of stereotypically hateful group. Frankly, Im sick of this group of individuals getting a pass because they were drunk or because it was just a joke. Political correctness aside. Ive been present on far too many occasions where it only takes one misinformed, intoxicated individual to start spewing hate for others to join in. Yes, racial humor can be funny, but what many do not understand is that by allowing this group of individuals to continually get a pass on these issues undermines the very doctrine of tolerance, acceptance, and of general societal progress so-to-speak. You may not think so, but a couple jokes about muslims, or jews, or blacks is the beginning of a night that ends in uproarious laughter as one proudly galavants up the street snickering to his buddies about that those swastikas they just painted on that Jew frat.
