by Professor Sameh Morcos (Sheffield, UK) " The up rise against religious fascism by the Egyptian people was justified and also democratic, The up rise by the Egyptian people in millions against Dr Morsi was building up for several months and received a massive momentum in the last 2 months through the brilliant Tamarud movement. A clear ultimatum was issued to the president through this movement which gave him a notice that he should resign before the 30th of June if they succeed in collecting more than 13 million signatures (13 millions voted for Morsi in the final round of the last presidential election, he received 5 million votes in the first round). The movement collected more than 22million signatures before the dead line. However, Dr Morsi chosen to ignore this movement and all his recent speeches focused on his legitimacy and kept a blind eye on the extensive descent right across the country against his failures as a president. The Tamarud petition, I believe was the biggest ever worldwide and was followed by the largest ever street demonstrations with more than 30 million Egyptians asking Dr Morsi to go and call for a new presidential election. Once more he ignored the voices of his people. The army had no choice but to interfere in response to the loud voice of the majority of the Egyptians before the situation deteriorates into a civil war. The army responded to the wish of the Egyptian people and removed a president that refused to listen to his people. Religious fascism is as dangerous as the fascism of the Nazi movement. If the German people has raised up against Hitler who reached to power through the ballot box would have saved the entire world the tragedies he has caused including a genocide of the Jewish in Europe and the death of millions during the second world. The Egyptian people decided to abort religious fascism in their country before the MB and its supporters fully control all the state institutions and irreversibly change the Egyptian identity and culture forever. In addition, the Egyptian people saved their country from the complete failure of Dr Morsi in managing the country affairs and stop the damaging of the economy and national security beyond repair. The Egyptian people had their backs against the wall by a president who listens only to his tribe and supporters. The army stood by the people, stopped a civil war and aborted the progress of religious fascism in Egypt. The voice of people is not only delivered through the ballot box but peaceful up rise is justified and democratic when all other options have been closed. In countries with well established democracy, effective parliament and free press the ballot box offers an effective and reliable method to change unpopular government. However, in Egypt what happened over the last few days was the only way available to the Egyptians to remove a failing administration. The vast majority of the Egyptians is grateful to the military leaders for taking the side of the people and also for their commitment to civil administration, rebuilding the country institutions and arrange free elections of parliament and new president as early as possible.
