by (sort of) popular demand, were going to start posting a thread every friday where people can list and talk about what records (or tapes or cds or mp3s or whatever) theyve been listening to this past week. the only real rule is no links to your own band/self promotion, okay? heres what ive been listening to this week: ana da silva - the lighthouse (chicks on speed records) - 2005 solo album from ana from the raincoats. i kinda spaced out on picking this one up when it came out because it was a little pricey but i found a copy used at mississippi records for $2 last night and it is GREAT! already on listen #4. erase errata - lost weekend (under the sun) - duh! one of the best bands of the past 20 years easily. i was sent a stream of this album back in summer 2013 but it sounds even better on vinyl. 45 rpm 12! bill callahan - sometimes i wish we were an eagle (drag city) - for some reason i didnt buy this until the past week even though ive always liked this album and this dudes stuff. oh well! thee headcoats - cavern under the sea (k) - i also found a used copy of this long out of print record at mississippi. 5 songs... people who like thee headcoats probably have an idea what this sounds like. i dont like it as much as the shouldnt happen to a dog 7 that k put out around the same time but this is still a really good record. black dice - creature comforts (dfa) revisited this album on monday morning when i was at the dentist and they gave me some nitrus to combat my EXTREME DENTAL ANXIETY and it was pretty much the perfect pairing. star trek tng - encounter at fairpoint ost - my buddy ilan got me this record for xmas a few years ago and its really good. i just hooked up a new stereo receiver in our living room and used this record to test the sound of my turntable against the sound of our roku (the show is on netflix streaming) and our tape deck (i also own this soundtrack on cassette) but we ended up listening to this album a few times over the week because its really good! whats everybody else been listening to? -ben
