campus scene this past Tuesday on the National Tsinghua University. for the friends in the US, you may not have followed the student movement in Taiwan for the past ten days or so. CNN iReport has some photos and reports on this. i respect and support the student movement in Taiwan against the proposed Service Trade Pact between Taiwan and China, including their occupying the Legislative Hall for more than ten days (still going on) and a brief entrance to the Premier/Cabinet Building, both in Taipei City. the student movement is led by a graduate student from National Tsinghua University and a graduate student from National Taiwan University. the democracy in Taiwan is still relatively young, ~ less than 20 years: the Martial Laws finally lifted in 1986 after ~ 40 years, and its first open democratic election in 1996. their demands for transparency, the accountability of the current Administration (KMT), and the dysfunctional majority party of the Legislative Body are a sign of frustrations by the students. it is a healthy sign of the progress of Taiwan democracy.
