He and Dr. Raj Panjabi of Last Mile Health just met with President Sirleaf of Liberia to map out a plan to bring modern medicine to West Africa so people will run towards healthcare rather than away from it. Many are running away because of misinformation and fear. They see people entering Ebola clinics but not leaving. Some believe doctors are actually GIVING Ebola to patients. But Farmer and his colleagues believe the survival rate can be dramatically improved by medical treatments we take for granted in America, including giving intravenous fluids, electrolytes, and clotting factors as needed. Farmer said, When has Ebola ever collided with modern medicine? Never! This morning, I discussed the current Ebola situation with Bob Schieffer and Dr. William Schaffner on Face The Nation.
