charlie chaplins the great dictator, stands not only as one of his own finest achievements, in a career filled with so many of them- but one of the most brilliant acts of personal courage, in the entire history of cinema. and something that is as relevant now, as it was in 1940- and maybe even more so, with our much greater dependence on machines, and less faith in ourselves and in our fellow man. because he stood boldly- against the fascism, evil and darkness that so many had fallen victim to- or allowed to spread, by their cowardice or ignorance- and used all of his art like a beacon, both to expose it- and show the world that there was a better path. and his closing speech from the great dictator, is one of the greatest single acts, to my mind- in the history of art, in any form- of the power of a great heart, who loved all people- in a world filled with hate- of what is possible, when you refuse to give in to same. youtu.be/QcvjoWOwnn4 #CharlieChaplin
