coming from someone that listened to slipknot very heavily for years, in my opinion the new album sounds like manure for the most part. there are parts of songs that had potential, but then they take it somewhere else that blows. wayyyy to many manipulations with digital sounding effects. I know theyve always had the turn tables, but for the most part he just played backing tracks and created dark and creepy atmosphere. this album has ok guitar parts but then they are trashed with whatever weird effect they used on them, and some of the vocals. they went back to more of their original style on some songs, but it just missed the mark for me. and this album has to be the WORST Ive heard Cory vocally and lyrically. he came up with a couple of good melodies and lyrics, but A LOT of it was corny as hell. just my two cents though.
