continuing on the subject of Remembrance Day... the purpose of the poppy on your lapel and the Flanders Fields poem and quite a few of the other things that characterize this particular day of the year is to remind us of the immense human suffering that was caused by World War I. after WWI every party that had participated in that war was very sure they never wanted to go through anything of the sort again. when i think about it it seems like a human tragedy that could very well have been avoided. the aftermath in itself is a bit jarring, and when you realize why this all happened it puts you into a bit of disbelief and so i think on this day we ought to reflect on that suffering, and we ought to promise ourselves (or, at least promise we will try very very hard) that we will strive for a world where war is the very last resort to our conflicts to an end... and we must always, always consider the human cost, and never assume a war will be over quickly... its never an easy thing to end
