#corruption --> A woman village administrative officer (VAO) was caught red-handed by sleuths of the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DVAC) in Trichy on Friday for allegedly demanding a bribe for a name change in a land title. Latha, 36, the VAO of Thandalai Puthur near Musiri was arrested by the DVAC police who laid a trap to the nab her based on a complaint from one Kanagaraj, a resident of Thillai Nagar. Latha is a native of Thiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur district. In his complaint, Kanagaraj said that he bought 12 acres of land in Thandalai Puthur village in his family members name. The names on the land titles had to be changed and so he applied for the same with Latha. But she dragged the matter for sometime and demanded bribe of Rs 10,000 from Kanagaraj to move his file to the tahsildar for further action. Later, she reduced the amount to Rs 8,000 and asked to give the money to get his work done. Unwilling to pay the bribe for his work, Kanagaraj decided to bring the matter to the DVAC. He lodged a complaint in this connection on Friday morning. DVAC police devised a plan to catch her red-handed. They gave chemically-laced cash for Rs 8,000 to Kanagaraj and told him to hand it over to Latha at her office in the afternoon. As planned, Kanagaraj was giving the money to Latha when the DVAC officials who were hiding nearby caught her red-handed. She was arrested and a case filed against her under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Latha was later produced in the special court in the evening. DVAC inspector Prasanna Venkatesh said that they did not get any indiscriminate documents at her house where they conducted a search after arresting her. #AAP,#WeNeedTrichy
