day 40: two steps forward, one step back, two steps forward, one step back. a frustrating dance, but its progress. thats the best way to describe today. so to cheer her up, I brought some of her favorite food from Asian Breeze. as I walked in the room, there was a slight change of scenery. her power chair was gone and there was her manual chair. and on her hands were her new riding gloves, lol. so as Im setting up the food, I notice her pushing herself into a seated position on her bed. pretty cool. so then I position myself to help her transfer from bed to chair. she says, dont touch me, just stay close. and with that she puts her hands on my shoulders, lifts herself off the bed, and into her chair. first time Ive seen that without me or a PT helping a bit to support her weight. shes getting stronger. a short time later we were visited by Kent and Kristin Coffey, and Michele Underwood Vaillancourt. the three of them were instrumental in setting up the McDonalds car wash. they brought the donation money, gifts, desert and good spirits. thanks guys. were so so appreciative. after they left we opened up a few more gifts. the bumper stickers from Gina Licausi, a gift bag of goodies from Kit and Kimberly Dorr Burnham, some more cards, a heartwarming letter from my brother Alfonso, and a box of cookies from Doug and Eileen MacElroy Moore, who have also been kind enough to make Jaimes dad some food while her mom was helping us out. its definitely one of our favorite parts of the day, although you cant imagine how much food and snacks are here!! the staff loves us though! we also got sent a prototype of a new chair that cousin Robbie is working on. (see pic). as I type this Jaime is still in her chair. with the exception of ten minutes, shes been in it for almost 7 hours now. shes getting stronger..... tomorrow is a big day as well. reinforcements from Southern MD are flying in. Mom and Dad Carnucci. theyll be staying at my house for the next month or so. that means the kids get to be in their own home, and all food and housework will be under control. it also means if you do anything nice for them, youll be paid in lasagna and meatballs. lol, just ask Matthew M. Martin and Julie Morgan Martin!!! pedal to the metal. shes getting stronger. cant stop wont stop. thanks for taking the time. #CarnucciStrong
