double enterotomy on a coondog performed about 3 weeks ago. this is a picture of the radiograph. Notice the obvious rock and then also there is a second foreign body in the mid ventral abdomen which was found to be a hickory nut. Then there is a picture of the two foreign bodies after removal and a picture of the dog one day post-op. He was eating and has since put back on weight and is doing great. Foreign body ingestion is a major problem a lot of dogs suffer and although most foreign bodies ingested do pass on there own occasionally they require surgical intervention. Signs include vomiting, weight loss, lethargy, and not eating if your dog has these signs it is advisable to contact your veterinarian and foreign bodies can be diagnosed with radiographs in most cases, but occasionally require ultrasound or exploratory surgery to definatively diagnose.---posted by John Krawsczyn Surgery performed by W.David Krawsczyn D.V.M.
