epaper.dawn/DetailNews.php?StoryText=02_11_2014_009_005 A few days ago I was riding on my way at Daulatpur (district Shaheed Benazir Abad) bypass, when I was halted by two armed young men. They forcefully snatched my wallet, cell phone and the bike I was riding on. The whole incident occurred on the main Super highway in broad day light. Within moments I was mugged and deprived of everything I possessed. I rushed immediately to the nearby police station to report the incident. The police station was located in some ancient ruins with rickety chairs and a broken bench. To add my disappointment the Station House Officer was on leave for his home town. Two police constables were busy in their private conversation when I interrupted them. When I tried to tell them the event, they with great ease asked me to wait and narrate the story to the incharge officer who showed up from a room after half an hour. He heard me with immense inconvenience and lethargy; he asked to go home and said that they would inform me if any progress took place. While I was there at police station I was told a similar incident had also happened two days earlier. Since then I have been frequently calling and visiting the station but in vain. Unfortunately in these days, the street crime is not any uncommon story in our country; who is spared off? This is the second time I have suffered this menace. But what hurts me is not the crime but the attitude of those people who are entitled as the custodian of our life and property. For maintaining the law and order, our country pays a fortune larger than even any developed country in the world but what we get in return? Yes it hurts.
