evening all i hope you all had a wonderful sunday i ben as busy as a bever today cleaning and pulling weeds. im off tomorow and im gona get caught up on my garden if i can if i dont mar up to my tale lol. oh well i got the mudd boots its just a wet year this year. but if the rain will let up for a couple of days we should all have a great garden! i thought tonight i would teach you how to rase pigs. we had a good sow and bore.they were gentle and easy to work with thats what you want. you need a pare of baby piglets so you can mess with them and make them pets. that way you are almost garenteed that you wont have any trouble working with them. you may need to give them a shot or check them if they have trouble giveing birth. but first things first you need a good pen to keep them in one that large enough for both pigs and fenced so that you can seperate the bore from the sow. both sides need a mud hole so they can waller in it to keep cool and it helps keep the hog lice off to pigs can get sunburnt pritty easy if they dont have the mud pluss they like it ! you need good sterdy fencing too so they cant get out and wind up on your front porch and say houdy like mine did. that was one funny day for me hehe. you need a pig hut too preferably off the ground so they will have a place to lay in the dry if they want too.if you intend on letting the sow take care of your piglets you will need a hut with rails on the inside for the babies to go so that the sow dont role over on them. i prefer to watch the dew date and catch her having the piglets. she will go into a trance at this time and you can get them away from here verry easely. i have a piggy brooder box i put my piglets in it has a infored heat light that keeps them warm. anyway get the piggys as soon as they are born dry them off and give them some colostrum for a day and goats milk after that. they will need to eat 3 or 4 times a day so be redy for a job. the mane reason i get the pigs so early is after they have all ben born the sow will get rilly mean and you wont be able to go near her or her babies so its just easier to do it like this. give them goats milk for 2 days and then fix them some cherios or oats and milk in a dish 2 times a day. the idea is to have them eating from a pan by day 10 they will eat verry well like this but they need the milk for 3 weeks by then you can start giving them more solid food. if they get the scoures dont panick just cut back on the butter fat and give them 2percent milk and oats. if they get week you may need to get some vitamins from the feed sipply store and give them a shot. i have done this many times but i cant remember what the vitamins are and i dont have the empty bottle. be sure and keep there feed and water pans clean use bleach. also keep there airea clean and dry as well this will keep them from catching a chill. a chilled baby pig will die if not warmed up you can do this by giving them a nice warm bath and rubbing them viggeresly with a towl i cover my wodden box with an old blankett and use the lamp to warm my babies. wen they are about a monthe old you can put them in a stall in a dry barn. keep the litter changed.and by this time they should be eating regular pig starter food. but dont forgrt to give them plenty of fresh water and milk to drink im gona stop right here cause im tired tomorow we will duscuss how to birth your pigs and what to do if your sow is having trouble. have a great evening Peace&Love night !
