{events of my time} AN OPEN LETTER TO THE MINISTER OF JUSTICE Our own cherished and illustrious Son, the Honourable Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Muhammed Bello Adoke (SAN), I want to first of all congratulate you on behalf of the good people of Ebiraland (our youth especially), and the entire peace-loving people of Kogi State on your 50th year Birthday. We all wish you very fantastic and more prosperous years ahead. Once again, happy golden jubilee Birthday sir! Secondly, it will not be out of point if we also use this opportunity to congratulate you on your successful retention over the recent POLITICAL SHAKE-UP in President Jonathan’s Cabinet that led to the unceremonious exit of nine Honourable Ministers at a go! Since it was not a Cabinet reshuffle as usual, but an executive exodus of your honourable colleagues where your humble self was distinctively retained, hence we need to glorify Almighty Allah for His magnanimous disposition and as well congratulate you once more for that rare Administrative feat. Honourable Minister Sir, you will certainly recall that when the good people of Ebiraland were under Kwara State as one of the major ethnic groups then, though with just two Local Government Areas, reigned supreme as the first Executive Governor between 1979-1983, in person of his Eminence Alhaji Adamu Atta, as we also produced the Deputy Governor in the next Administration of Chief Cornelius O. Adebayo, in person of his Eminence Alhaji Umar Abatemi Usman alongside other numerous juicy political and professional appointments for our illustrious sons and daughters. Though, records with ‘events’ today didn’t contain the political struggle for the creation of Kwara State between the late Sixties and midst Seventies but however, that of Kogi State is no doubt well-known to all the entire elites in Ebira and Okun Communities who were today relegated to inferiority in terms of socio-political benefits and Ethic Nationality Status in the State. Of a particular interest to us sir, is the pathetic socio-political & economic situation in Ebira Community that is seriously begging for solution because it has degenerated and if nothing is done timely we may witness the worst. It is on this vital note ‘weekly events’ seeks to know the level of your commitment towards addressing this ugly situation and not just that, the Ebira Community (as your immediate home) needs to feel the impact of your highly exalted Office in practical terms. It may also interest you to know that this is the 3rd time Kogi State is producing the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation; 1st, Alh. Abdullahi Ibrahim (SAN) from Kogi-East, 2nd Chief Bayo Ojo (SAN) from Kogi-West, now being the turn of Kogi-Central it could not be seen as accidental, hence we may be the last Senatorial District to produce the Minister of Justice in Kogi State, but we must not be the least in terms performances & benefits to the host Community and therefore we use this medium to appeal to you sincerely to use your great office in ameliorating these numerous Soci-economic challenges in our Community especially unemployment. Again sir, we are much aware of the obvious fact that you were not nominated or appointed by any Ebira man and that your present position was not by election, beyond this impression, is the fact that you just have to contribute your own quota to the development of your fatherland at least for the sake of posterity. Lest I forget, the disheartening information that reached ‘weekly events’ very recently, somehow formed part of the cogent reasons for sending this letter. It was alleged publicly that some of our Innocent People at Home, precisely in Nagazi your Native Community in Adavi LGA got their legitimately-owned lands with erected Building Structures, forcefully taken away from them all in the name of securing vast plot of land your personal use, to the point that some of the land owners who summoned courage to protest that open act of INJUSTICE were arrested and brought down to Abuja based on your order. True or false, our main concern here is to remind you, should in case you have forgotten the Republican nature of Ebira People which implies that whatever goes up will surely, one day come down. Sir, you are there today, certainly you will not be there forever and that is the more reason you have to leave behind a benefiting legacy like your immediate predecessor: Chief Michael Aondoaka (SAN) from Benue State whose position then as Minister of Justice might have directly or indirectly influenced the appointments of the former EFCC Boss, Hajiya Farida Waziri, the present NAFDAC Boss, Dr. Paul Orhii and many others from his Tiv Ethnic Nationality instead of being at war with the people of your own Community. Despite the apparent failure recorded so far by almost all our present political office holders, you are very much at liberty to emulate the superb legacy of our past leaders/heroes; Comrade Alh. Raji Abdallah, Chief George U. Ohikere, Alh. Abdul-Azeez Atta, Amb. Abdulmalik Atta, up to the likes of, late Prof. Albert Ozigi and Senator A. T. Ahmed whose political generalissimo and dynamism had remained evergreen. We still have great contemporary leaders today for you to emulate, such like; Dr. Pious Salami, Engr. Ibrahim Mamman, Engr. Joseph Makoju, Prof. M. S. Audu, Justice Moses Bello, and Gen. Yusuf Amuda Abubakar (rtd) etc, who have made great impact on Ebira People in the past through their Gods-given positions. Finally sir, you have to beware of those who have gotten similar opportunities in the past as IGP, COAS, MD NITEL, MD NNPC, Senators, etc but failed woefully because of the kind of legacy they left behind and today they cannot stand before Ebira People and claim to be their leaders, who knows, they may be disgraced. “A stitch in time saves nine.” Sir, this is your time, please use it wisely. Thanks and God bless you. THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES!
