examiner Dog believed to have been missing for almost 2 years found in forest June 19, 2014 In October 2012, a dog disappeared while on a camping trip in the Tahoe National Forest - today, the missing dogs family is hopeful that the golden retriever they just found is the same dog, reported Thursdays KSDK News. Though the five-year-old dogs family plastered the area with lost dog fliers after Murphy vanished, nearly two years passed without her being found. Fast forward to earlier this month...a frail, thin golden retriever was spotted near a campground near French Meadows Reservoir...within miles from the place where Murphy disappeared so many months before. Murphys family was contacted and they drove to the area to leave personal belongings that carried their scent...the luring trick worked. A short time later, the roaming golden retriever was spotted asleep on those very items. According KSDK News, Camp host Jason Smith stated: There was Murphy sleeping on the blanket. And right there I knew, thats Murphy. Thats their dog. It was curled up with its head on the hat. Initially, the dog was too frightened to be caught, but eventually Smith was able to capture her. A reunion with Nathan and Erin Braun, 20 months in the making, quickly followed. Via Facebook, the family expressed their amazement over the miraculous reunion; a portion of their update reads: As you can imagine we are completely shocked and amazed with the miracle of her surviving this long. We were reunited with Murphy, on Sunday afternoon - Fathers Day! She is on the road to recovery, very thin and frail but happy to be home with her family. Though the family feels that the dog who was discovered is indeed Murphy, there are subtle physical differences which have cast a ray of doubt; a DNA test has been ordered to confirm that the dog is truly Murphy. If perchance the test reveals that the dog is not Murphy - she has a new family to call her own.
