for my friends who missed it... “Where is Sarah Gold?” by bsp The transient hotel was old...the once grand lobby was dark to hide the cracking walls and missing tiles...the smell of cheap wine filled the air like a dank incense...a weathered man in a sleeveless t-shirt showed me to her room... She was sitting in an arm chair by the open window...the curtains danced in the night air...a Tiffany lamp gave note of past elegance...a violin lay on the desk in an open case...with a red velvet lining... “is this the violin for sale?” I asked...as she moved closer to the light... “yes sir...it was my sons”...”Did you have if appraised ?” I asked as she carefully removed it from the case...”The man said it was of little or no value”...”He was nice and gave me back the $25.00 fee”. ...”Why are you selling it?” Without answering she raised the frayed bow and pulled it slowly across the strings......for the next minutes I was spellbound...she returned the violin to its case like a mother putting a child to bed...”How much are you asking?”...”I need $50.” she said looking into my heart for an answer... ...”SOLD” I answered with a smile....But I have nowhere to keep it right now...How about you holding onto it for me?”....She tucked the $50. into her dress pocket...”Can I come back when Im in town and hear you play some more?” This was the first time she smiled... I wish I would have stayed longer and talked some more...I returned in less than a year...and the hotel was closed...I was told they were making it into condos... ...I searched the internet and wrote the property managers and owners without success...”Where is Sarah Gold?”
