#fourcomics Web of Spider-Man 32- and the whole Kravens Last Hunt story blew my mind (and Kravens), as far as what a spider-man story could be. I was probably a little too young to be reading it, but thats most likely a big part of the impression it left on me. Aside from the suicide and dark trippy dream sequence it was also my first real exposure to obsession. The whole if I cant beat you, I will become you aspect was very powerful and is just something I will never forget. Batman 457- Tim Drake becoming Robin from a story line perspective was just fantastic. Theres so much in this book that I love and respect. I love Tim because he earned his spot as Robin. He figured out Batmans identity, and apprenticed under Batman for a while as he was waiting to be considered ready because he appreciated Dick and Jasons legacy. He Still had a bit of the tragic element of the previous two Robins origins with his mom being killed and his dad paralyzed. In the book he saves Batman and overcomes the Scarecrows fear toxin. He admits that hes afraid of failing and pushes through. Its one of the best origins ever, and made me love the concept of the mantle and what it means. As a marvel kid the idea of the mask being more important than the man behind it was a refreshing way to look at things. Ghost Rider vol. 2 #1- the idea of Ghost Rider being this unstoppable, unrelenting force as opposed to the vengeful Demon that reveled in his work was awesome. I totally saw less as more. This Ghost Rider lived in a very black&white world where right was right and wrong was wrong. I loved the decisiveness and certainty that he acted with. Art-wise Texeira drew some very chakin inspired lines, probably the grittiest stuff that I had seen by that point. Adventures of Superman 501- Death of Superman was huge, and getting four new characters all of whom ended up with staying power enriched his legacy even further. As a14 year old at the time, the teenage clone of Superman resonated with me. That legacy was a lot to live up to, and although he debuted as a somewhat immature and egotistical jerk the character had a lot of charm. He had the Superman legacy thrust upon him and you rooted for him to live up to it, which he did. Also Tom Grummets art work is some of my all time favorite stuff.
