from Chris Dzadovsky We have heavy rain predicted for the next week.We need to take 9 inches off of the lake to bring it low enough to stop the discharges. It will take a groundswell of demands from out elected officials and our community leaders demanding the suspension of EAA Environmental Resource Permits to fill the canals. Please ask the new District Director to suspend the permits until the lake is low enough for the discharges to stop.We need an immediate remedy today. The discharges can’t go on. Herman’s Bay still has some healthy sea grass and we can’t let more discharges kill it.The mullet run is on. The mullet eat algae. Everything eats the mullet. If the mullet fill up on toxic blue green algae we could see the same death rate for dolphins and pelicans that we saw to the north.Attached is a PowerPoint that has a solution to stop or slow the discharges this week.I have found no actual evidence that this is unworkable despite having spent a great deal of time searching.I am citing law I have found in print. If you know of law that supersedes it please send me a link or a citation.Big Sugar can be stopped from filling up the WCA’s. Lake O water needs to go south to the WCA’s.Please view this PowerPoint and email your representatives and the governor. To see more detail and examples of the permits visit indianriverkeeper.org/Permit_suspension9_13.pdf .
