After talking to the borough engineer he suggested that I speak with flood insurance program rep. After some prodding I called the FEEMA National Flood Insurance program (NFIP) at 8006386620. The NJ regional NFIP # is 2675605057 I strongly suggest that you call them before making any plans to elevate. They told me that 85% of the rate is determined by the degree that your finished floor (on the flood cert) is higher or lower to the designated base level elevation on your flood cert. You need to know where you stand on this for the FEMA rep tells me as many people are looking at higher rates based on this factor Second—if you do elevate and you have an existing “crawl space”, if that crawl space size becomes a basement (in my case it would if I raised my house 2 feet)—MY RATES WOULD GO UP SUBSTANTIALLY. Call and talk to a rep before your elevate—know how you can be affected before you rebuild!!!!
