I say cut the defense budget to no more than $263.3 billion with a generous portion allocated to the soldiers themselves in benefits and payment (the rest everything else can fight over) Cut out medicare, medicaid, the ACAs mandate for all to be insurance and the subsidies that make it marginally affordable, and all corporate welfare. Combine the cost of those cut-out things and use it to make a single payer system of high quality standards complete with incentives to get young people to be doctors. Leave private insurance to their own devices. Your taxes will not personally go to this single payer system if you have and keep private insurance. Instead, your insurers capital gains taxes will be used for that purpose. Otherwise, for those on single payer care, Taxation will be reformed to reasonably fit your annual income... with the more you make, the more you pay. As for what is covered? Everything your doctor wants you on. If it is high-risk, then the doctors responsibility is to get it authorised just like Insurance firms make you do) and make it easy and simple and quick to do. lets make real healthcare reform and make our government spurn private interests in favour of the good of the public, but leave people their freedom. And important thing to also have included is all doctors or health professionals of any kind should accept the benefit, including dentists. Therefore, all people can chose their own doctor and facility with impunity... no network shit and no dictations by any organisation. It is not impossible and it makes sense, perhaps too much sense. It will screw some people used to high profits out of such profits, but the markets consumers are more important than a few peoples moneybags. ..................As for relevance to the macro... Congress members get paid too much for people who only work half the year. If money is their only motivator, then they need to get their greedy asses out of office... impose term limits and make all forms of monetary lobbying and resulting corruption illegal and strictly enforced.
