from august 2003 . . . Haunted house exposed on public television show Wappinger home featured tonight By John W. Barry Poughkeepsie Journal Spencer Ainsley/Journal file Roxanne Wentworth, who lives on Middlebush Road in the Town of Wappinger, sits in front of her morning glory-shrouded cemetery gates that she had installed in front of her home in February 2001. Wentworth will be part of a WNET program, The Souls of New York, tonight at 10:30. Spencer Ainsley/Journal file Wentworth, left, stands next to her daughter, Lori Milkovich, inside the family garage of their Middlebush Road home in the Town of Wappinger. The photograph, taken in total darkness with an off-camera strobe, shows an unexplainable aberration in the upper right portion of the image that Wentworth describes as an orb. As this photograph was being taken, Milkovich was calling out to Robert, whom she describes as a regular visitor to their home. Roxanne Wentworth believes her Town of Wappinger home is haunted. Tonight, you can draw your own conclusions after watching a program on public television that examines Wentworths claims through the eyes of a ghost hunter. The Souls of New York is set to be shown tonight at 10:30 p.m. on public television station WNET (check listings for your cable provider). The 30-minute show features folks with interesting careers -- tonights program features a joy-ologist who runs instructional workshops on laugher and its benefits; a hardware store run by three generations of the same family; and Frances Bennett, who holds a doctorate in parapsychology, runs the New York Ghost Chapter in Westchester County and last year traveled to Wentworths Middlebush Road home to investigate her paranormal claims. Wentworth believes spirits of the deceased live in her home and communicate with her and her daughter, Lori Milkovich, on a regular basis. The situation began in February 2001, Wentworth said, when she installed gates from a local cemetery at the edge of her driveway and has continued with vocal communication from beyond captured on tape recorders, visual communication captured on digital cameras and physical contact. Footage of orbs The television segment featuring Wentworth includes footage of orbs which Bennett has called a mass of energy that upon death sheds the human body. Orbs, according to Bennett, have density, a nucleus and color. The segment also features a chilling image from Wentworths backyard -- a silhouette of what appears to be a male dressed in a cape. Wentworth and Bennett both called this image an apparition. Wentworth, who has viewed an advance copy of tonights program, said it provides credibility to her claims. It validates that there is activity there -- that 53 Middlebush Road is haunted, that its a haunted house, she said. Thats what I like. It validates that its not the crazy lady on the hill. Brent Sterling Nemetz, creator and producer of Souls of New York, said documenting Wentworths situation left him wondering about the supernatural occurrences in her home. I went as sort of a questioning, non-believer and I left thinking twice about it, said Sterling Nemetz. Once I was able to experience their world, it definitely raised some questions in my mind. There definitely was something going on around there. Regarding the logistics of the shoot, which took place inside Wentworths home and outside at night in her yard, often with an infrared camera, Sterling Nemetz said, The nice thing about Roxanne is she gave me full access to the house and she was great to work with. ... It was just a great setting for the show. They had a very large backyard. At night, with the lights off, it added to the flavor of the piece. But while tonights program might lend credibility to Wentworths situation, she still must deal with her guests. I was never comfortable before and Im not comfortable now, she said. Theres still activity. Im convinced its the gates. But Im terrified that if I get rid of them, Ill make my spirits angry. Wentworth and her daughter, however, are dealing as best as they can. Were toughing it out, she said. I dont know any men who would spend one night in my house alone.
