from kdock radio four hours ago.... bandon pacific K-DOCK 92.9 FM Classic Hits Radio Authorities are evacuating an area of the Charleston Boat Basin after a chemical spill at the Bandon Pacific Seafood Plant this afternoon. Officials say a 300 gallon Anhydrous Ammonia tank was reportedly leaking. The chemical is used as a coolant in the seafood processing process. A leak was reported around 3:30 and an evacuation of the processing facility began immediately. Since then the evacuation was expanded to the living quarters of the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology. Hazmat and firefighters have been dispatched to the scene from Charleston, Coos Bay and North Bend. At least one person has been transported to the hospital. According to an eyewitness, Fire and Police are turning traffic away at Oyster Cove. Authorities are asking you to avoid the basin area of Charleston until an all clear is given. There is no word if any businesses along Cape Arago Highway have been affected. At this point the evacuation appears only to be near the Bandon Pacific Seafood Plant.
