from the County Star. Read your local newspaper. NLX plans open house in Cambridge Posted: Wednesday, December 3, 2014 6:00 am Those in charge of planning the proposed Northern Lights Express (NLX) rail project will meet with the public in four cities this December, including an open house in Cambridge. The Northern Lights Express is a proposed high-speed passenger rail train from the Twin Cities to Duluth. Current plans are for a 155-mile line with stops in Minneapolis, Coon Rapids, Cambridge, either Grand Casino Hinckley or the city of Hinckley, and Duluth/Superior. Project construction cost estimates are over $1 billion, and NLX officials have gone on the record saying the train would likely require an ongoing taxpayer subsidy to operate. The Cambridge open house is planned for Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 5-7 p.m. at the Cambridge Mall (180 Buchanan St. N, Cambridge). Public open houses are also being planned at Hinckley High School (Dec. 10, 4:30-6:30 p.m.), Superior Public Library, (Dec. 4, 4:30-6:30 p.m.) and Sandstone Senior Center (Dec. 8, 4:30-6:30 p.m.). According to a press release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the open houses are being held to offer updates on the project, learn about the proposed station sites and what facilities would be included with those stations. The open houses are also intended as a way for community members to provide feedback on the proposed stations. More information is available at the MnDOT website for the NLX project at mndot.gov/nlx. Those that cannot attend the open houses are invited to offer comments and feedback to MnDOT’s NLX Project Manager Frank Loetterle at [email protected] or (651) 366-3194. The next regular meeting of the NLX Alliance Board is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Nov. 26 at the Pine County Courthouse.
