having trouble accessing my blog 3 Grammy/Austin Tales 1998 Got into town that Wednesday evening for my first shows/ meals with/at Dale Watson, Don Walser and the Texacalli Grille. Had interest in two finalists for Country instramental. 1. Fat Boy Rag Asleep at the Wheel. I was at the Vegas shows where this was recorded and you can here me on the intro to this song. 2. Mama Screw Your Wig on Tight Leeroy Parnell. By 1997 radio had changed and Leeroy was not getting as much airplay on his 5th album. A bunch of online fans from New York to Washington established an online Fan Club. Our highlights included an on air presentation to Gary Chapmen and from my friend Jerry Bruner(RIP) a letter to the Austin Chronicle about a tough review. I would write one a few months later about the same reviewer being tough on Delbert McClinton. 2003 ? The only time I met Big Jim Murphy the steel guitar player was at a Heybale gig on Grammy night. I think we might have discussed Asleep at the Wheel and Brad Paisley. I was also in Austin when Jim passed away in 2005. Red Volkaert made a quick run to Nashville for the services between his Saturday and Sunday gigs. 2008 I had been to a fund raiser with Danny Roy Young and as we headed home we got a call Pine Top Perkins had won. I was in the audience for a special show at Antones later that week. Note that only one of these stories was after I started broadcasting in 2007.
