he sum of N17billion is needed for the conduct of the 2016 census, chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Eze Duru-Iheoma yesterday told the House of Representatives Committee on Population. He said the N17billion will be deployed to create additional registration centres (N5billion), construction of ICT centres across the 36 states (N5.7billion) among other expenditure sub-heads. He told the House Committee that only N203million has so far being approved by the Budget Office. With all the things we need, the N203 million given will not even scratch them on the surface,”Eze Duru-Iheoma said.The issue Nigeria and its demography,{censuses/population} has being contentious and costly given what it implies that we dont have reliable estimates on population from a socalled most populous nation in this region.What do you make of the above narrative?
