Lundsten said new budget will include some new programs. Goals: students, community, staff, environment, financial. Budget projects full funding of the fair funding formula, includes debit forgiveness by city. Budget is off of real numbers... We have made significant progress... 5 contracts have been settled since last budget, New busses purchased, New routing system... Fair funding formula should add over 3 million to budget, and bond approved for school improvements of over 12 million. Asking for 1.8 million more from city... Budget includes MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS AND 6TH GRADE MUSIC. Lundsten says, has attended many concerts over the years and was impressed with performances, but saddened by numbers. First time there is a noticeable difference in numbers of musicians... (No thanks to BASICS of course, for trying to do their part...) Increase in 3 hours / each building aids... Additional social worker, school psychologist, highly qualified special education teacher. Increase in nurse hours, art hours, and two more gym teachers to get our physed hours to where it needs to be, also two sports trainers. Budget for 241 students to attend charter schools, 134k. Lease instruments for schools to a cost of 25k for a five year lease. (Why cant students purchase?? Financial aid for those who need it) Money included for refs for middle school sports. Need to put money aside to be proactive with repairs and maintenance. Saved money in special education outside tuition because several families moved out of Cranston. 6k for sheet music for musicians.... Supply increase of 10%, so tissues, paper towels, etc can be purchased. Transportation, looking to continue to replace the fleet of busses. Purchased routing software for bus routes... Moving transportation dept into this century. Need new furniture in some buildings, old lunch tables, desks falling apart, etc. 5.39 million increase overall in budget, including fair funding formula and request for a city increase. For years we have been level funded or cut. (I dont think that is actually accurate but I will check later.)
