hi zane...I have a situation that I need your help on......im 23 yrs old and im about to get married.....I want my grandfather(my fathers dad)to give me away because he has always been the only male in my life......my father was married when I was conceived and his wife hate me with a passion because she cant have kids....in my 23 yrs of life I have only seen her 3 times and if we are at a family event and I show up...she will leave....I have neva stayed a night at my dads house...when I was younger I use to go stay with my grandparents and this is how me and my grandfather became so close.....my dad has always picked his wife over me.....we never spent anytime together...he just always took care of me financially....well last year he started writing me on fb and saying that he was sorry for not fully being there for me...but at this point in my life I feel like its to late...he made his choice a long time ago....but I got engaged this year and my father want to give me away....I dont think he deserves to...everyone says that I should forgive him...but its so hard...I want my grandfather to give me away....am I wrong???? signed, lost in new orleans MY RESPONSE: Let your grandfather give you away and do not give it a second thought. If people want to express their opinions, simply say that it is your important day and you are entitled to have the wedding that you desire. Tell your father that you appreciate him at least apologizing but you are not comfortable with him giving you away. In fact, you could even send him your email so he can see the real deal. You have no reason to feel bad about a thing. Do not let others stress you out. This is your special time.
