hit by a police van. From a member - I was stopped at the traffic lights on the sth Gippsland hwy dandenong sth, the driver of the Red Holden UBR807. Stopped in traffic for a good 5-10 seconds. the lady in the car behind me was also stopped for about the same time. the approaching police van then hit the red mazda hatch behind me, at best guess from what seemed 60-70km/h. the driver of the police van police van claims he was distracted looking at the cars parked on the Cranbourne bound side of the hwy thinking that there was an accident. When I drove past those cars there was one with its bonnet up, and a guy and a blond lady in tight leather pants trying to repair something in the engine bay, enough of a gap to clearly see there was no accident. I no what i did when I drove by and that was perv on the blond... any straight male would have. the police van clearly distracted, at the last second realized that he was going to hit the red mazda the police van tried to swerve from the left lane to right lane to avoid the collision, but was to late. he hit the red mazda (hard) with the force of the impact the red mazda then hit the back of my red commodore. the police van coming to stop near my red commodore. What was also noticed, was the severity of the collision was enough to snap the front siren from the bumper of the police van and throw it past the commodore by about 10 meters or so. The passenger of the police van got out and ran back to the red mazda to help the female driver bleeding badly from the front and the back of her head. The driver of the police van took the details of witnesses involved including myself, thats when I asked for the police can drivers details and HE REFUSED and Walked off on me to direct the traffic around the accident. the Accident happened on the 9/12/14 I gave a statement on the 14/12/14 since that statement nothing else has happened nor have I been advised of any outcome involving the police officer breaking the rules by not handing over his details. (when a police officer takes your details they must also provide your their details. failure subject to a fine) When i asked for the police van drivers details he simply replied NO ITS A VICTORIA POLICE INVESTIGATION YOU GET IT FROM THEM. Then he walked away not even given the chance for me to look at his name tag. All this while i was sore and concussed from the accident and hitting the windscreen I was left standing there dumbfounded. the sergeant that later responded, after i told her what was said between the police van driver and myself... the sergeant gave me his surname, rank and serial number. It was almost 24 hours after until I got his details.
