hope this helps a bit JoeCARMICHAEL, Gerald John Published:Oct 05, 2013 Event Date:Oct 04, 2013 Gerald John CARMICHAEL CARMICHAEL, Gerald John Jerry, a name synonymous with wit, humour and fun! Died peacefully at home on Friday, October 4, 2013 at the age of 82. Most dearly departed leave wishes…. Not our Dad, his are strict instructions. There will be no funeral service, memorial, or any other hocus pocus to mark the occasion of my passing. I want no muss, no fuss and minimal expense to get me to my final resting place in the wall at Greenwood Cemetery; Smitty has enough money already, I dont want to add to his wealth. And Virginia, keep in mind I was never a patient man while living and I dont expect things to change much when Im gone, so dont be hanging around too long, you know I never did like sleeping alone. Farewell to my three younger siblings Russell, Marlene and Edna. Although there was some conflict between myself and a couple of you (you know who you are), never doubt that I loved you all, just a little more love for the one I remained close with up until the end; Marlene, you and Larry have been gems. Over the years Ive worked security, owned my own well drilling business, V.P. of a trailer manufacturing firm and even drove a big oil rig, but to be honest, I never much liked working, only did it to support my wife and children, all 5 of them. To my kids John (Susan), Brenda (Jim), Wendy (Steve), Ross and Cathy (Rejean) I ask that you always strive to be healthy, happy and never lose your sense of humour. I dont have to ask or remind any of you to take good care of your Mother because youre the best bunch of kids that a man could ever have hoped for and Id like to think I played a small part in that. Good-bye to my 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, you were loved always; never doubt that, even when your behaviour was less than exemplary. Mistakes will be made throughout your lives, be smart, learn something from them. I thank the doctors, nurses and P.S.W.s who have gone above and beyond in my care these past few years. It hasnt been an easy haul for any of us, but your care has allowed me to stay at home with my beautiful wife, Virginia. Speaking of which, I consider myself to be the luckiest and wealthiest man; because of the richness of love that you brought into my life on a daily basis. Your love and devotion to me and our family, has been overwhelming. People closest to me know my non-religious views and disbelief in an afterlife… perhaps thats because Ive already spent the past 63 years in heaven, married to a living, breathing angel of my own. This is not the end of our love story, Virginia, we will remain always in each others hearts and in the hearts of the children weve loved and raised together through the years. Since there is no service to be had, Id like my immediate family, to enjoy a meal together and reminisce about the good times weve shared over the years. In lieu of flowers or donations from friends and/or relatives, take the money, go out and enjoy a meal with your own families, because life is short, enjoy each other while youre here. Ta ta.
