https://facebook/events/734715516598826/ The Board of Game has also liberalized (taken away unnecessarily restrictive regulations) seasons for lynx, beaver, and other wildlife as well in recent years. Why are these regulatory changes different and not contested since nearly all wildlife have actual or potential interdependent relationships? A removal of a moose by a hunter would potentially leave less opportunity for a wolf to harvest a moose - could that be viewed as a form of altering the processes of a natural ecosystem within Preserves? What if that hunter is also a Federally Recognized Subsistence user? These are the the types of fears that many Alaskans have expressed over these proposed changes: that this is the first step in eventually deeming all human harvest of wildlife as ...not consistent with the NPS implementation of ANILCA’s authorization of sport hunting and trapping.. on NPS lands. These are real concerns that I believe need to be addressed. It is not enough to say that the NPS is not against hunting, or is against sport hunting only, when your policies are seemingly heading in a different direction and are at times directly in conflict with your mandate to provide for continued subsistence uses.
