https://youtube/watch?v=7JNLsQcXCCo&feature=youtu.be Jerry Hernandez, Trombonist of the original band, by popular demand in May of 2008 restarted Orquesta Dee Jay and is the current director and leader. The original band was started back in 1968 by George De Jesus aka Dee Jay and was one of the most popular swinging Latin bands with some of the youngest musicians in the Latin Music industry of the 70’s. We performed in all the top NYC nightclubs and big dances run by Ralph Mercado and Hector Maisonave. Some of the clubs were The Cheetah, The Psycho Room, the Corso, the Casa Blanca and “The Village Gate” which only featured headliners and salsa legends of that era. In addition to our great performances on the New York Club and dance hall scene, we also appeared on the Miguelito Valdez TV show. Cuban Latin music producer Ralph Lew who spoke English came on board and nicked named us “La Dee Jay” which was derived from “La Orquesta Dee Jay”. Our first LP “Pa lante Con La Orquesta Dee Jay” was recorded in 1970 on MGM Latino and was a big hit for us. Approximately a year later, we recorded our second album called “Forget it” on Lewgas Records which was owned by Ralph Lew and Sammy Vargas who later worked for Sony Records. Our original LPs are now collector’s items that go for up to $250. Orquesta Dee Jay’s music is original, our arrangements were created from jam sessions we had before rehearsals. Thanks to the research and promotions performed on the Internet we are now featured on various salsa web sites such as hardsalsa in NYC, BuscaSalsa in France, Amisalsala in Colombia and countless others. We were recently also inducted into SalsaClasica and featured in Latin Beat Magazine February 07 and March 2012. We are also in the July 2009 issue of the Mambo Scene Magazine. We were recently on Sonando El Son on La Familia Cosmovison on Cable TV which was broadcasted in 357 cities in the US and Colombia. We perform our first overseas show at Festival Salsatongs in Marsielles France in July 2011. We also performed at the New York International Salsa Congres September 1st, 2011 and the New Jersey Salsa Congress in April 2009. We have a data base of over 5000 names worldwide and an increased following of dancers, fans and collectors. Today’s band features many seasoned musicians with an extensive history in Salsa. We have once again gained popularity with DJ’a, the Dance and Classic Salsa community throughout the world. Fans are screaming and applauding the band and showing up at all our shows. Question being asked at gigs by today’s generation is WHO IS THAT BAND? They’re HOT! Where are you playing? You can now witness at your venue the revival of our incredibly energetic Salsa Dura Band known as “Jerry Hernandez y La Orquesta Dee Jay”. Please go to facebook/orquestadeejay for pictures and videos. Orquesta Dee Jay has just released 2 singles and will be celebrating 46 years in 2014. We look forward to hearing from you.
